Windsor 375 Spring Reception Huge Success

The Loomis Chaffee School campus was the ideal setting for a spring reception on March 6, 2008 honoring Windsor's 20 "daughter towns," all of which were originally part of Windsor. Representatives of 14 of the 20 "daughter towns" including First Selectman, Mayors, Town Managers and representatives of Historical Societies attended the elegant event held in the ornate dining hall of the historic Loomis Chaffee campus located at the confluence of the Connecticut and Farmington Rivers.

Homer Scott, a member of the Descendants of the Founders of Ancient Windsor spoke to those in attendance offering a detailed account of the departure of each town and the history behind the decision of each town to break away from Windsor.

Each of the towns were presented with a Windsor 375th anniversary commemorative coin by the Chairperson of the Windsor 375 celebration, John Pier.

Philadelphia "Mummers" Band Coming to Windsor

The Windsor 375 Parade Committee is proud to announce that the Woodland String Band from Philadelphia, PA will be joining us on September 27, 2008 for the Windsor 375 Parade!

The Woodland String Band was established in February 1926 and has competed in the annual Philadelphia Mummers Parade every year since January 1st, 1927. The band performs a unique brand of Philly style entertainment that includes music comprised of instruments from the reed, string and percussion instruments combined with the wearing of colorful fancy costumes, consistent with each year's new theme. The members of Woodland pride themselves on being a family organization, currently including seventeen father and son combinations, one of which includes three generations.

In the tradition of mummery, Woodland performs a new and exciting choreographed theme of song and dance (similar to a mini Broadway show) each year and strives for excellence, finishing in the top ten of the annual parade 55 times (19 out of the past 20 years), including 15 top five finishes and three first place Captain's prizes during our 80 years of existence.
