Windsor Art Center
The Windsor Art Center's will kick off its 375th celebration at 6:30 PM on September 4, 2008 when a commissioned piece by Lon Pelton is unveiled on the Palisado Green. There are two themes running through the Center's events. One is the future of Windsor while the other picks up on the past and carries into today. Lon's sculpture will begin our look at the future. The future theme will then be incorporated into the main gallery exhibition at the Windsor Art Center.
Opening on Thursday, September 11, internationally known artist Ellen Carey's Color Me Real show. Color Me Real explores the use of color which represents the changing seasons, the changing color of faces and the changing colors we experience in our life in abstract form. The show will be dedicated to Connecticut's own Sol Lewitt, who was linked to many movements. including conceptual art and minimalism. His media were predominantly painting, drawing, and "structures" (a term he preferred, in opposition to sculpture). Lewitt died in April 2007.
In one of its smaller galleries, the Windsor Art Center will pick up on the Faces exhibition at the Windsor Historical Society with its own faces exhibition. The featured artist will be Windsor artist Jeanne Manzelli who will also explore color.
Throughout the show, which will run though mid November, there will be talks, workshops and other events.
The Windsor Art Center will be part of the 375th Anniversary parade which will feature Lon Pelton's Bissell Ferry float and other eye catching pieces.
